BLUES CHALLENGE 2012
Ottawa Blues Society Road to Memphis 2012
Local Blues Band Competition
Finals: Friday, September 21, 2012
WINNER: FIREBELLY
2nd place: BIG CHILL
Last night (Sept 21st) at the Ottawa Blues Society (OBS) Road To Memphis local Blues Challenge competition finals, volunteer judges Bruce Boucher (Kingston Blues Society), Irene Ippersiel (Montreal Blues Society) and Lynn Saxberg (Ottawa Citizen) chose Firebelly to represent the Ottawa Blues Society in the Blues Foundation’s 29th International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
January 29 – February 2, 2013.
Four bands competed:
-The Joe Gaspar Band
- Big Chill
- Firebelly
- Three Times Lucky.
Entries were judged in five categories – blues content, vocal talent, instrumental talent, originality and stage presence – using the scoring criteria provided by the Blues Foundation.
Cover charges and raffle fundraising provide support for travel and accommodation expenses for the winning OBS representatives. Nearly $4,000 has been raised to date and a final fundraising event is being planned for later this fall.
Firebelly is a modern blues outfit dedicated to fostering Blues and Roots music into the future, while respecting its rich traditions. Its members are fueled by a collective passion to make great music.
The music of these four gifted improvisers is pure, raw and spontaneous and no song is ever played exactly the same way twice.
The Ottawa Blues Society is a volunteer organization whose mandate is to “foster appreciation, promotion, preservation and enjoyment of the blues in all of its forms”.
